About the Artist:
At the young age of 13, Blair Currin was captivated by the many oil paintings adorning the walls of his grandparents’ home. He attended the Art School of the Southwest in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, where his grandfather, Harold Roney, taught landscape painting. As with any young aspiring artist that was urged to get a “real” job, he graduated with a degree in graphic design from Texas State University in 1979. A 26-year painting interruption followed. Hounded by the need to paint, he has returned to the easel full time to pursue his boyhood passion. Born in 1956 in Kilgore, Texas, and raised around the world, Blair returned to his native state when his father retired from the U.S. Air Force. Living in Texas, inspiring land- and skyscapes have never been far away. Although he appreciates many genres and media, he prefers oil and the great outdoors as his subject of interest. “There is no shortage of lessons to be learned from observing all that nature offers.” His aim is to find satisfaction in the journey, not just the destination. The product will happen if the process is enjoyed. That is, the enjoyment will surface from a healthy dose of hard work. Blair draws inspiration from studying paintings, working alongside fellow painters and reading art books. He has studied with many instructors – Matt Smith, Kevin Macpherson, Scott Christensen, Ray Roberts, Bruce Peil, Dennis Blagg – each layering new knowledge to shape his own personal direction. He has participated in many juried competitions and exhibitions, and his works are in several private collections. He also enjoys teaching, sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge.
The Artist on His Art:
Painting is my life’s pursuit. My focus is to create meaningful work, consistently and authentically. The creation of quality art is a continual process of learning, observing and, above all, striving to improve with each new painting. As my painting and my unique journey unfolds, I believe it’s vital to define my voice. I aim to do this by painting from my heart. Like fingerprints, no two artists share the same vision and style. Unlike other vocations, creating art demands that we painters place our thoughts and inner selves on canvas. I want my viewers to see me and my paintings as one and the same.
